We are a husband-wife team (Papa Sam and Grandma Marg to our granddaughters) with a passion for good freshly-roasted coffee. After many years living and working in the Mat-Su Valley of South-central Alaska and a brief sojourn in western Wisconsin, we have followed our granddaughters to colorful Colorado in 2022. We founded Jackson’s Black Dog Coffee Company in 2022 with the idea of sharing our love for good, freshly-roasted coffee with family, friends and neighbors. Our name is a tribute to our late dog, Jackson, a registered therapy dog in both Alaska and Minnesota. For more than 10 years he offered comfort and support for children referred for suspected abuse and provided them the comfort they needed to tell their stories. Our new English lab puppy is bold, curious and spirited…it is our recent experience that puppies are like coffee, some are boldly spirited and others more smooth and mellow.

A few words about the Jackson Black Dog Coffee Company process and our product:

1. Fresh-roasted coffee tastes better. Full stop. We are a small-batch roastery and we do not roast your beans until we receive your order. All of our coffee has a “roasted-on” date rather than a “best used by” date.
2. We believe that fluid-bed roasting (AKA air-roasting) results in a better tasting cup of coffee without the burnt, charred flavor that is unfortunately characteristic of many large coffee brands.
3. Coffee is one of the worlds most popular beverages. Smallholder farmers produce 80% of the world’s coffee and we believe that the farmers who grow coffee deserve to earn a living sustainable wage. We prefer to support smallholder farmers when possible. This is why the source and origin of our beans may change, but never the quality.
